Gabe's story

The Cool Dudes

The North Korean people's army amassed an invasion force of 90,000 men and about 34 tanks. On Sunday morning, the 25th of June, the North Koreans attacked. The South Korean army facing them consisted of a force of 38,000 men. Billy and I were on vacation. I said to Billy, "Why are the South Koreans fighting the North Koreans?" "It is because it is a war," Billy replied back. So the government called us to fight, and told us we were going to be in the war. We said "Cool, we're soldiers!" I said to Billy, "what do we do?" Billy said to take down soldiers. I said "Oh!" Then I take down somebody with my machine then Billy slapped himself in the head and he said  the bad guy. "Oh," I said, "then we win the war!"

Ryan's story

9/11 Attacks

Pedro, a tourist from the Philippines, woke up at 8:15 A.M. in his hotel. He showered and wore his new shirt and pants. It was his first time to see New York. he wrote in his diary, "I love New York City, and wrote the date, September 11, 2001. He was happily thinking of the new places he was going to visit. He put his map in his backpack and went out.
Along the way, he put coins in a newspaper stand, picked up the New York Times, and tucked it under his arm. He walked across the World Trade Center. Then he stopped at a hot dog stand. He ordered a hot dog and coffee. He started reading the newspaper and was about to bite his hot dog when suddenly he heard a loud noise and looked up. It was an airplane flying too low! He thought, “It’s strange for a plane to do that.” Without warning, it crashed in the upper level of the World Trade Center. His friend Juan was working in one of the towers. Immediately, Pedro dialed his friend’s number and said, “A plane crashed into the tower, you better get out!” His friend and some of his co-workers got out and were just in time to see a second plane hitting the other tower. The noise was so loud. Everybody was horrified. People started to run out of the tower. Without warning, it started to collapse. Dust and fumes surrounded them. Pedro and Juan ran for cover.
It was a horrifying sight that would forever be imprinted in Pedro’s mind. When they got up, Pedro hardly recognized Juan. Everyone’s face was covered with ash and dust. He could hardly breathe. They tried to help other people and picked up wounded strangers until they could do no more. As the night fell, they walked away from the World Trade Center. Pedro was so shocked by the day’s events, that when his cell phone range he wasn’t able to answer right away. It was his mom in the Philippines. His family saw it on the CNN news as it happened, and they had been trying to get in touch with him the whole day. They were crying as he tried to reassure them that he was fine.

A DAY WE WILL NEVER FORGET

My uncle was on his way to a meeting on 9/11. He was late.  He was on the phone when he heard BAM!!A plane went right through the World Trade Center. Everyone was so scared.  My uncle saw lots of people crying and looking for family members. Then about one hour later one more plane went into the other building. Then my uncle saw a little girl crying and looking for her parents. He asked her what is wrong. She said her mom and dad were lost and her sister fell and was hurt very badly. So my uncle helped her find her mom and dad. They took her hurt sister to the doctor. She was feeling better in just a few hours. When the little girl’s family was all back together my uncle let them stay at his house.  They all watched the news about the World Trade Center. It was a very sad day they will never forget.

Joey's story

GGPA  GOES TO WORLD WAR II
By Joey Newcomb

A long, long time ago, a little boy named Joey was visiting his Grandma and GGPa in Cincinnati.  They were having a great time when something bad happened.  On December 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed the U.S.S. Arizona at Pearl Harbor. This started World War II.  This upset  GGPa because he loved America.  So he decided to join the war to help our nation.
GGPa was a pilot for the Army Air Corps.  He flew B-17 bombers across the ocean.  Grandma and  Joey were worried for GGPa and hoped he would come home soon.  A mean man named Adolf Hitler kept the war going, so GGPa had to stay and fight.  GGPa flew his plane all hours of the night.  Sometimes he stayed up over 24 hours without sleep.  He took chocolate bars with him to eat so he could keep up his energy.  He told Joey  all pilots did this to help them stay awake.
The war lasted a long time but GGPa sent home letters to Joey and Grandma.  In one letter, he talked about his pet monkey, “Monko,” he had when he was in Africa. GGPa and Monko flew a lot of missions together. Monko was a great co-pilot.  Monko was a great friend, but when GGPa went back to Europe he had to stay in Africa.
Many people died in the war.  GGPa was very lucky. In all of the missions he flew he never got hurt, and his plane never quit working.  Soon the war was over. The good guys that GGPa fought for won and the bad guys with Hilter lost.  GGPa then got to go back to Cincinnati with Joey and Grandma.
When GGPa got back to Cincinnati Joey and Grandma planned a huge party! They had fun and ate cake. Joey was very happy that the war was won.  He was most excited that GGPa came home and was safe.
