Marshall's story

Three Guys in WWII
By
Marshall Johnson

A guy named Billy got a letter that said “Prepare” on December 7, 1941. He thought it was just a fake letter. On that day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Billy and his friend went out and raised the U.S. flag. That meant we weren’t going to go down without a fight. The bombing was successful. A lot of Japanese died, as well as a lot of Americans. Billy’s son was in elementary school. His name was Brian. Brian was six years old. Brian was in Florida so he didn’t know what was happening. He thought Billy was fine. Billy wished Brian was fine. Billy called Brian and said Pearl Harbor was bombed. Billy was mad at the Japanese. The Japanese didn’t bomb America’s fuel supply. If they did we couldn’t do anything.

Part II
Singapore

The British fortress was forced to surrender at Singapore. Many British troops had to surrender to the Japanese. Billy’s friend Kyle was in the group of British troops. Kyle was the leader of the British troops. They got in a gun fight. Kyle killed seven Japanese troops. In all they killed 30 Japanese troops.

Part III
The Bombing of Tokyo

Billy is the leader of the squadron bombing Tokyo. Billy and Kyle and two gunners were in a B-25. They run over Tokyo and drop their bombs. They destroy most of it. The gunners shot down 12 Japanese planes. Brian is watching TV to see what is happening.

Part IV
The Battle of the Coral Sea

The Japanese were going toward Australia in the Coral Sea. It was the first battle in which two naval forces engaged without ever coming within shooting distance of each other. Japanese planes managed to sink the American carrier Lexington and damage the Yorktown. Billy and Kyle were shooting down planes. The Americans destroyed a Japanese carrier. Kyle and Billy were in the planes bombing the carrier and they sank it and destroyed two Japanese cruisers. The U.S. won the battle!

Part V
The Battle of Midway

The Japanese planned to attack the island of Midway to take over the Pacific. Billy and Kyle just met Marshall. Marshall is an American. He was trained in the Navy. He is a communications officer. He intercepts Japanese plans. He tells Billy and Kyle what they are going to do. Billy and Kyle flew the Beaufighter and bombed a Japanese carrier and sank it. Marshall is on the boat telling Billy and Kyle what to do. Only one American carrier was sunk and four Japanese carriers were sunk.

Part VI
The Bombing of Germany

Billy and Marshall are in a squadron about to bomb Germany. The U.S. sets up targets to bomb Germany. At daylight the U.S. forces set out to bomb Germany. The U.S. planes are on top of Germany and they released their bombs on Germany. Billy and Marshall hit right on their targets. Germany was injured. America was successful!

Part VII
D-Day

On June 6, 1944, a battle called D-Day or Operation Overlord was the biggest battle of WWII. Earlier in the war we bombed Germany and softened them up. General Eisenhower was taking over Normandy Beach and the Port of Cherbourg. When the battle was over, France was free and we were ready to put Germany back in its place!

  1. I think you had a great, unique idea about dividing your story into parts. You provided a great amount of detailed background information on World War II and readers should get a good sense of the facts surrounding this event. I like how you gave clear descriptions of your characters and what role they played in the events. Great job! Mrs. Sullivan
